THE FIRST THREE months of 2022 saw the commencement of some of the biggest award shows, with quite a few returning to their old, offline formats. Case in point: this year’s ScreenActors Guild Awards, which ditched its virtual arrangement for 2021 and was held at the end of February at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica,California. Naturally, this gradual return to normalcyalso heralds a strong comeback of the event’sspectacularly stylish red-carpet moments.

And at the 28th SAG Awards, there were twoincredible artists who stole the spotlight not only for their professional achievements, but also theway they scored extra style points on arrival – thanks in no small part to their amazing Louis Vuitton ensembles...

LADY IN RED

Our first protagonist in this story of Hollywood extravaganza and Parisian savoir-faire is English actress, singer and songwriter Cynthia Erivo. At this year’s SAG Awards, she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie. It’s worth noting that she received the nomination for her portrayal of none other than legendary American singer Aretha Franklin in National Geographic’s anthology series Genius: Aretha.

What’s also notable was what she wore, namely a custom red vinyl strapless gown with a red vinyl faux-fur cape embroidered with black, red and silver chains and crystals. Large bands of tulle and lace embroidered with silver beads and chains underline the edges of the cape. Completing her outfit was a pair of red vinyl sandals.

It should perhaps come as no surprise that a lot of work goes into the assemblage of this dress – 230 hours of work, to be exact.

The result, however, is a red-carpet look that perfectly complements Cynthia Erivo’s reputation as an accomplished artist. It is a daring look with layers upon layers of detailing which, in turn, speaks volumes of Louis Vuitton’s savoir-faire. Then again, these two are no strangers, as Cynthia Erivo arrived at the 2021 Emmys also in a custom Louis Vuitton dress. Still, the Parisian fashion certainly outdid itself with this dazzling red number.

The Dark Horse

One of 2021’s most highly regarded television series is, of course, Netflix’s Squid Game, which then went on to become the most-awarded series at the 28th SAG Awards. Of the incredible ensemble cast that made the show such a huge success, South Korean model and actress Jung Ho-yeon joined her co-stars in being nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and then went on to win Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

She also won quite a lot of approval for her outfit: a black spaghetti strap dress hand embroidered with crystals and silver beads on a jacquard silk fabric. A particularly interesting touch is the geometric embroidery in a degrade that appears from the top part of the dress to the bottom. The dress also features embroidered braids on its edges, while the pockets are embroidered with tulle and silver metallic threads. A total of 210 hours were required to assemble this dress, with a further 110 hours needed to individually place and hand-embroider the look.

Jung Ho-yeon also wore white gold diamond earrings and a sapphire white gold and diamond ring from Louis Vuitton’s High Jewelry collection. The overall effect was that of subtle grandeur – of a simple silhouette that, upon closer inspection, encompasses incredible detailing and exquisite craftsmanship. In short: the perfect ensemble for a previously little-known artist who took the world by storm, and the perfect showcase of what the house of Louis Vuitton can accomplish through its legendary savoir-faire.
