RICHARD QUINN IN HIS OWN WORDS
HOW DID THE COLLABORATION WITH ROYAL SALUTE COME ABOUT?
I do love my whisky and drink on occasion. With Royal Salute I saw a product I really connected with. It was nice to combine the two worlds and see the brands collide; an intense and electric floral design with a heritage flacon.
FASHION IS SUCH A CHALLENGING INDUSTRY, DO YOU FACE ANY PRESSURE AS A YOUNG DESIGNER?
It’s a dream job. I get to do what I love. I don’t really feel the pressure to be honest. It’s a fun job working on the showmanship and the shows.
YOUR DESIGNS ARE NOTICEABLY FUN, FLORAL AND LOUD PRINTS. FROM HAVING QUEEN ELIZABETH TAKE NOTICE OF YOUR WORK TO CELEBRITIES LIKE AMAL CLOONEY, CELINE DION AND LILY ALDRIDGE WEARING YOUR DESIGNS, WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE THAT THIS IS WHAT RICHARD QUINN DESIGN SHOULD BE?
I love collages, colours and florals – basically things that give off a big contrast. All of those components are iconic fashion elements, and I twisted them in a very dark and unexpected way I think. It’s great seeing everyone embrace my designs. It’s fascinating. Something you create can become a moment in time.
ARE THERE ANY DESIGNERS THAT YOU LOOK UP TO OR HAVE SHAPED WHO YOU ARE?
I love designers from the ‘50s and ‘60s. The couture from the past that have the shape and volume of beautiful fancy clothing. I also really love Alexander McQueen for the extreme extravagance of the designs.
BEHIND THE FASHION AND RUNWAYS, WHO IS RICHARD QUINN?
I’m quite a normal guy, really. I love whiskeys and going out with my friends. I spend a lot of time at home as well. That’s just what I think of myself, not sure what others would say, it could be a different extreme! [Laughs]
