he inauguration of terminal 3 Ultimate, the new terminal at Soekarno-hatta International Airport, has been delayed for additional safety checks. The Transportation Ministry was not satisfied with the air traffic control mobile tower as it could block the view of the apron.
Terminal 3 Ultimate is aimed at adding capacity to the airport and also as a transit hub for international travellers similar to Singapore’s Changi Airport. The US$500M terminal is slated to have a capacity of 15 million passengers after phase one is complete and 25 million passengers upon completion in 2017. The ministry has stressed that Terminal 3 Ultimate will operate only when it meets stringent requirements. “The bottom line is, we give the green light when it is 100 per cent ready,” said Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan on June 25.
