Four Seasons’ second property in London is in the grand old Port of London Authority headquarters in Tower Hill, near the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Gherkin. The listed historic building, which was designed by renowned architect Edwin Cooper and opened in 1922, has undergone a £6 million renovation during which painstaking efforts were made to ensure the building’s original stonework, plasterwork, wood carvings, marble floors and grand staircase were preserved. There are 100 guest rooms and 11 lavish suites (including a Presidential Suite with its own private terrace and garden), It’s the perfect base from which to explore the thriving art hub of Cape Town—six beautifully renovated floors of the grain silo complex above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. Located in the heart of Cape Town and with views over the V&A Waterfront, the sensitively renovated historic building is set to become a landmark as synonymous with the Cape Town skyline as the Eiffel Tower is with Paris. The hotel has 28 rooms—including a spectacular, light-flooded penthouse— each decorated with colourful and eclectic pieces that soften the modern industrial architecture. Book a treatment in the spa, pop downstairs for a guided tour of the museum, which is set to open its doors in September, or simply enjoy the sunset as you sip a drink by the rooftop pool. However you look at it, life at the Silo is mighty relaxed.
