Preventing Plastic Pollution

Foundation launched by entrepreneur Marco Simeoni both raises awareness and provides solutions

-

Set up in 2010, the race for Water Foundation focuses on water and ocean preservation. Formed by Swiss business entrepreneur Marco Simeoni, the foundation launched a scientific and environmental expedition on board a racing trimaran class driven by Marco with the goal of developing a global assessment on the level of plastic pollution in the sea.

Two years later, he has returned with a new ambassador vessel—the first powered by a solar-hydrogen-kite energy mix, which competed in the five-year Race

For Water Odyssey. Having already travelled halfway round the world, he has arrived in Vanuatu and will be stopping off in Indonesia in June.

The vessel will travel to many important international events and visit islands and large coastal towns that are both affected by, and have become sources of, plastic pollution in the ocean. The aim is to raise awareness among the local population and offer solutions to prevent plastic waste from reaching waterways.
