Natural disasters have not prevented island being named most Muslim-friendly destination in Indonesia
The year 2018 was a difficult one for the beautiful island of Lombok, with a number of natural disasters taking their toll. However, the West Nusa Tenggara island has been named as the Best Halal Tourist Destination in the 2019 Indonesian Muslim Index (IMTI). Having been voted ahead of Aceh, Riau, and Jakarta, this is a major boost for the island and shows the resilience of its inhabitants.
Out of a possible score of 100, Lombok gained the highest of the 10 destinations with a score of 70. The assessment criteria consisted of outreach, ease of communication, and digital presence. It was a unanimous decision that although there had been an overall improvement in all 10 of the suggested halal destinations, Lombok had made the most improvements. Many hope that the award will boost tourism and recognition for one of the most beautiful islands in the country.
