Tatler Indonesia

Celebrating Surabaya

-

elcome to this special supplement of Indonesia Tatler, dedicated to the hip and happening hotspot that the city of Surabaya is fast becoming—and a lot more besides, all in one special package. As well as local news and essential information like what’s happening when and why you should go in both Surabaya and Bali, we also delve into the life of Surabayan Azza Dina Jamal, who hosts a lovely luncheon for her friends and their daughters at a special mother-daughter soirée at the celebrated De Soematra 1910. Azzadina reveals to us in intimate details the bonds she shares with her family, and, in particular, with her youngest daughter Kenisha, who joined us for this story. Read more in “Friends for Life”.

We also extend our heartiest congratulations to President Jokowi on his election win and look at what drove the majority of Indonesians to vote for this people’s president. His achievements are nothing short of remarkable, and so I urge you to read more in “Welcome Return”, which details what this great man has done for the country so far and perhaps gives us a glimpse of what more we can expect.

This special June supplement also features plenty of style-related coverage special for the male readers, as well as a feature on the latest menswear catwalk sensations. We are asked many times to feature more masculine content, and while I feel that we do pay equal attention to both genders, it’s perhaps worth making special mention here of our eight-page runway report entitled “In the Limelight”, which focuses on all the fashion that counts this summer.

But is it summer? In a country with little seasonal change beyond wet and dry, it can sometimes seem a little samey. But given that our readers love to lead jet-set lifestyles, I can rest assured that many of you will be enjoying a little break over the next month or two. It is, after all, the time of long breaks and family gatherings: may yours be truly blessed.

Happy reading! —Millie Stephanie Lukito CEO and Bureau Chief
