National Gallery of Australia showcases the art of Indonesia
The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra has recently begun showcasing the work of 24 established and emerging Indonesian artists. The works on display are inspired by topics that range from gender roles and sexuality to the environment of the 21st century. Paintings, sculptures, installations, moving images, photography, textiles, live performances, and a film series will all be used during the exhibition.
“What the National Gallery of Australia is trying to achieve … is to amplify the voices of Indonesian artists as loudly as we can,” said NGA director Nick Mitzetvich. Artists on show include
Tisna Sanjaya, FX Harsono, Melati Suryodarmo, Entang Wiharso, Eko Nugroho, Duto Hardono, Tromarama,
Tita Salina, Zico Albaiquni, Uji “Hahan” Handoko Eko Saputro, Adi “Uma Gumma” Kusuma, Octora, and Albert Yonathan Setyawan. The exhibition will tantalise all senses until October 27. For more information, visit nga.gov.au.
