Precious Time
Worn by many of the world’s political figures, directors, and visionaries, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-date is instantly recognisable
Since its launch in 1956, the Day-date has been a major innovation in watchmaking. The first calendar wristwatch to indicate the date and the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock, Rolex pulled off a technical feat of brilliance. The Day-date is well-known as the “President’s watch”. The prestigious style of many of the world’s political figures, directors, and visionaries relies on the emblematic President bracelet.
Fast-forward to 2019, and Rolex introduces the new generation of its Oyster Perpetual Day-date 36, available in 18 ct yellow, white, or Everose gold with distinctive new dials and gem-set bezels on some versions. The indication of the day of the week is available in 26 languages to reach a wider and higher profile generation of wearers around the globe.
Of the new combinations, two feature a novel dial design with a concentric gradient: the first, in 18 ct yellow gold, is presented with a green ombré dial; the second, in 18 ct Everose gold, with a brown ombré dial. Both are embellished with diamond hour markers in 18 ct gold settings; the diamonds at 6 and 9 o’clock are baguette-cut, a configuration specific to the Day-date range.
The Oyster case is also specially made to be waterproof up to 100 metres to provide optimum protection for the Day-date 36’s high-precision movement. Furthermore, the case back is solid and edged with fine fluting that is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that only Rolex can access to emphasise its originality.
The President bracelet is equipped with an elegant and concealed folding Crownclasp and completed with ceramic inserts inside the links to enhance its flexibility and longevity. The watch is powered and driven by the calibre 3255, which is equipped with a self-winding module from a Perpetual rotor. The piece’s overall excellence is also covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.
