Sustainable and timeless is the SOTTES way
Founded in 2017 by Jeanne Guenat and Elliot Upton, Sottes—pronounced as sot—is a clothing brand that defies fashion norms by creating undefined pieces: one-sized, season-less, and genderless. The word is given to a child who exhibits mischievous behaviour: now, Guenat and Upton are applying the meaning onto their curated pieces, acting as inspiration and direction for the brand.
Prioritising the importance of creating a sustainable and waste-free industry, the brand utilises upcycled fabrics and limits production, producing only individual pieces.
All are thoughtfully handmade by Guenat and Upton themselves along with several local seamstresses in their open-aired, bright atelier, which unexpectedly resides in
Jura in Switzerland. SOTTES is creating its own rules— mischievously going against mass production, cheap labour, and countless seasons, and rebelling against the industry for a better tomorrow.
Recommence 2.0 is a continuation of the debut collection, Recommence. Featuring four new additions, the line is an evolution of colour, shape, and design, which will gradually emerge in forthcoming collections throughout the years. Starting with white fabrics acting as blank canvases, Upton and Guenat let their imagination and creativity go in any direction they want to, much like a child would paint on a wall.
Furthermore, childish creativity can found in each of the styles, prints, designs, and in the way the garments are constructed. Each stitch and print represents a messy scribble found in an infant’s colouring book. In addition to the models posing with their faces covered by cardboard smiley faces, the collection features vibrant patchworks, stick figures, and messy scrawling. All the pieces are minimalistic yet one of a kind and in the best quality, using only traditional production techniques.
With a focus on upcycling, whatever is recycled becomes a directive as to what they will produce next.
