The beauty and details of Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 is the archetype of the classic watch thanks to its functions and aesthetics, which are truly timeless. Launched in 1945, it was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer watch to display the date in a window at 3 o’clock on the dial, and it consolidated all the major innovations that Rolex had contributed to the modern wristwatch until that time.

Now, two new variants of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 are being introduced: one in a yellow Rolesor version, combining Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold, and another in an Everose Rolesor version combining Oystersteel and 18 ct Everose gold. Rolex is once again instilling enduring elegance within its collection: the first version pairs an olive green, sunray-finish dial with 18 ct yellow gold hands and Roman numerals—the VI set with 11 diamonds—while the second features a rosé-colour, sunray-finish dial with hands and Roman numerals in 18 ct pink gold.

Like all Rolex watches, the new Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 versions carry the Superlative Chronometer certification —which ensures excellent performance on the wrist and is symbolised by the green seal that comes with every piece— and are coupled with an international five-year guarantee.

Boasting a blend of robustness and elegance, the Oyster case of the Datejust 31 is guaranteed to be waterproof up to a depth of 100 metres. Its middle case is made from corrosion-resistant Oystersteel, while its case back has been screwed down with tools only Rolex watchmakers have access to. The crystal has also been carefully created using virtually scratchproof sapphire.

Both combinations are equipped with calibre 2236, which is at the forefront of watchmaking technology and was first introduced on the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 model in 2018. Entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, the calibre 2236 is fitted with a Syloxi silicon hairspring patented and produced by Rolex and is up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. The calibre 2236 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours.

The yellow Rolesor version of the Datejust 31 is fitted with a Jubilee bracelet, while the Everose Rolesor version is equipped with an Oyster bracelet. Supple and comfortable, the five-piece link Jubilee bracelet was specially created for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust in 1945. Accurate, powerful, and built to last, these new introductions are the very embodiment of Rolex’s commitment to superior timekeeping.
