Carrying out social missions with their employees, the Shangri-la Hotel, Surabaya, and the Shangri-la Hotel, Jakarta proudly collaborated on a community-based programme entitled “Coast to Coast”, which took place from December 5–8. During the opening ceremony the day before, the Shangrila Hotel, Surabaya planted baby mangrove trees in Konservasi Mangrove Trunojoyo in Wonorejo, Surabaya.
Meanwhile, the team from Jakarta cycled 366 kilometres from Jakarta to Pekalongan, which took them four days via the Pamanukan and Cirebon route, and from the other side, the team from Surabaya cycled for 395.6 kilometres through Cepu and Semarang. Both teams eventually met up in Pekalongan.
During the cycling trip, the teams stopped at several primary schools on each of their routes. During these visits, they educated the students about the dangers of single-use plastic using educational materials developed in collaboration with Komunitas Nol Sampah (Zero Waste Community). A knowledge-based competition and an interactive game were also held to test the students on their understanding of the topic, with a Polygon bicycle as the prize.
Moreover, the Shangri-la Hotel, Surabaya also provided water tumblers and lunch boxes for participating students, as well as a water dispenser and 10 gallons of water to be utilised in the classrooms in each school, all supplied by Danone Aqua.
