Editor’s Note
So here we are in 2020—our 20th anniversary year, as it happens. Many of you will have made New Year’s resolutions on December 31—perhaps light-heartedly and with a little bit of the party spirit in you—but it’s never a bad time to shed old habits and begin anew in any aspect of our lives. In recognition of this, and acknowledging that our readership is ever on the go, we, along with the other Asia Tatler titles, have put together a complication of hip hotspots for toning up that torso, shedding a few kilos, or simply giving your heart a good workout in “New Decade, New You”. Remember: procrastination is the enemy of execution, so don’t dither, just do it!
Of course, with renewed vigour comes a natural boost to self-confidence, not that our cover star needs any such lift. “Power Player” features Dewinta Pringgodani and shines a light on her amazing life. Dewi was raised in a military family, which gave her a good grounding in self-discipline—a background that has not only served her well in her law studies and business success, but, when combined with a razor-sharp intellect, has led her to become one of the most influential people in the country in political, economic, diplomatic, and social circles. She is truly an amazing lady, as is Lestari Moerdijat, who is currently serving as Deputy Chair of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia. In “People Person”, you can read all about her success both in politics and as a survivor of breast cancer, as well as being a champion for other victims of this vicious disease.
If you’ve not guessed it, the loose theme of this issue is people of power and influence. And this serves as a suitable segue to the Indonesia Tatler Ball 2019, held in Surabaya at Kaliandra Eco Resort and Wellness Retreat last November. Movers and shakers from all over the country descended on Surabaya for a double celebration: not only was it our first ball to be held outside Jakarta, it also saw the official launch of our newest venture, Indonesia Tatler Surabaya–java. For more, turn to “Evening Stars”, which celebrates this enchanting night in sensational style. This year’s 20th anniversary ball in 2020 may also bring some surprises, so watch this space!
