Airyn Tanu and friends enjoy a pleasant day out at the awardwinning Rainbow Hill golf course
With the rainy season bringing in mild rain, beautiful dewdrops and thin mists brought to life the greeneries carpeting the vast Rainbow Hill golf course in Cijayanti, West Java. The low hum of golf carts and light chattering intermingled with the peaceful atmosphere and fresh air marked yet another fun day at the range. Braving the early morning chill, a group of female golfers had gathered one Thursday. The ladies in attendance included Airyn Tanu (Passion Jewelry Group’s owner), Dina Sean and Dewi Bambang Soesatyo.
The renowned J. Michael Poellot Golf Design Group had strategically laid out the 27-hole mountainous course to take advantage of the scenic views. The group chatted excitedly and shared compliments of their game as they enjoyed the vistas. Each player showed her perfect posture and swings all clad in stylish golfing outfits. Airyn enthusiastically shared with us her love for golf and how she takes on the challenges. “Although it is a relaxing sport, there are always new challenges in golfing—it is never boring and makes me wanting to learn more,” she said. “For example, on a bad golf day, my swings were not smooth, and I had not reached my peak performance. Instead of self-criticizing my poor play, I was motivated to improve my skills and learn the tricks.”
Long acknowledged as a luxury sport, golfing also provided the perfect setting for social gathering. Similarly, for Airyn, the game presented many opportunities to have fun with her friends and business connections. “When you play it with a group of like-minded individuals, regular golf outings could help build and maintain relationships,” she said while affixing her tee. “Many high-profile people take the game seriously since it provides a uniquely

stimulating challenge that differs from the work routine. The slow and steady pace gives people time to enjoy companionship with fellow golfers to talk about strategies for the game, or their businesses.”
Interest in the game as of late has also spiked ever since the coronavirus pandemic struck Indonesia last year. As the pandemic has forced the closure of many indoor sports facilities, open-air golfing became the best and safest option for exercising. Besides keeping the body healthy, the fresh air boosted the mood after long periods spent at home. The open space also allowed a sizeable gathering while allowing safe distances between players.
With the increased influx of new golfers, she shared some useful tips for players to get into the swing and enjoy the game. “Etiquette and integrity need to be learned before going down to the golf course,” Airyn said. She further gave some examples of poor behaviours, such as taking selfies too often or hogging up one’s turn without minding other players. “One should remember that golf is a game that requires a timely fashion and cooperation from all involved. Keep the game organized, steady and, most importantly, respect your fellow golfers with good manner.”
