HE BEATA STOCZYNSKA
Ambassador of Poland to Indonesia
Her Excellency Beata Stoczyńska understands very much that respect is the foundation for deepening relations between nations, a principle she executes well in her role as the ambassador of Poland to Indonesia. “One of the ways I express my respect for Indonesian culture and its people is through batik,” she said. “Each time I attend social events like diplomatic receptions, I try to wear batik as an element of my attire.” Since arriving in Indonesia, HE Stoczyńska’s fascination with batik continues to grow alongside her collection of different batik patterns and outfits. “I love the fact that batik is a living tradition. The traditional way of this art is still alive, and so are its ancient patterns.” During our interview, HE Stoczyńska was wearing a batik tailored by the famous Yosep Sinudarsono. “I always wanted to try one of his designs,” she said. “For Batik for the World event, he designed a custom batik in red with white elements. Red and white are the national colours of Poland and, due to a lucky coincidence, also the national colours of Indonesia. Mentioning the similarity of our flags always makes a good ice-breaker in the official meetings.”
