Uncertainty over smaller carry-on size
UNCERTAINTY HAS ARISEN over the International Air Transport Association’s recommendations for smaller carry-on baggage, which had been developed in partnership with several member airlines and aircraft manufacturers.
The trade body had called for maximum bag dimensions of 55cm x 35cm x 20cm to optimise space in the cabin. But as we went to press, IATA was reassessing its recommendations “in light of concerns expressed, primarily in North America”.
Although airlines including Lufthansa and Emirates had confirmed that they would adopt the suggested guidelines, IATA’s recommendation was significantly smaller than many airlines’ existing maximum cabin bag size. British Airways and Easyjet, for example, both allow 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. iata.org
