NO FOLLOW-THROUGH

I would love to know why British Airways is just about the only airline that steadfastly refuses to check luggage through when you are connecting at Heathrow to catch a flight with another carrier?

My poor mother, in her sixties and with a bad back, was just told at Manchester that BA would offer no assistance to check luggage through to her connecting flight with Singapore Airlines [SIA] to Singapore.

If this were the other way around, and my mother was flying with SIA back to London to connect with British Airways to Manchester, Singapore Airlines would not have batted an eyelid to check luggage all the way through.

BRITISH AIRWAYS REPLIES: It’s always disappointing to hear that a customer isn’t happy with the service we offer, as we always aim to provide the best possible assistance.

Unfortunately, when customers make separate and unlinked flight bookings, in line with IATA [International Air Transport Association] guidelines, they are required to collect their luggage and check it in for their next flight.

When customers travel with one of our partner airlines in the Oneworld alliance, we can book their luggage through to their final destination. If your reader had booked with one of our partners, we would have been able to assist them further.
