AIR MILES

-

GERMAN CORNEJO is an Argentinian tango dancer and choreographer. He travels the world for up to six months every year. Last year he took close to 40 flights to the likes of the US, Colombia, Thailand, Taiwan, Italy, Switzerland and the UK, as well as frequent domestic flights within Argentina.

Most unusual place you’ve ever been?

Réunion in the Indian Ocean, to perform in an arts festival. It felt more like a holiday than a tour.

As a dancer, you must have to travel with lots of clothing...

I normally travel with two suitcases: one personal and one with all the costumes I need to wear in a show. Since a regular tour can last between three weeks and four months, it’s difficult to keep suitcases within the weight limit. I’m very organised so, over the years, the only thing I’ve lost was a pair of Armani sunglasses that fell out of my bag.

How could international airports improve?

Somehow they need to make the security process faster and less tedious for everyone, but without compromising passenger safety.

How could airlines improve their in-flight service?

Being connected has become a basic need in our lives. As such I believe all airlines should offer free wifi on board.

Indispensable travel gadgets?

My down pillow, iPad with Netflix episodes downloaded, Bose Quiet Comfort 20 acoustic noise-cancelling earphones, herbal anti-stress oil, moisturising lip balm, and natural decongestant inhaler. That’s my perfect kit.

Favourite in-flight reading material?

I much prefer watching movies or box-set series to reading. I can easily see four movies in a row without sleeping.

Loveliest souvenir you’ve ever come home with?

I collect “I love [city name]” mugs from the major places I visit. But they have to be black, white or red. No other colours are allowed. I have more than 50 mugs at home.

Ultimate dream destination?

Tibet, because of all the amazing landscapes, the spirituality, the magic and the calm.

German will be dancing in Tango Fire at London’s Peacock Theatre between January 29 and February 16. peacocktheatre.com
