KEEPING FIT ON THE ROAD

Always travel with your running shoes.

They’re light to pack. It’s a great way to explore a new city because you cover much more ground than walking. And I find it a great cure for jet lag.

Ask your hotel concierge for a map of local running routes.

If the concierge isn’t sure where to suggest, just head for the local parks.

Use apps such as Strava, MapMyRun, Pacer, Couch to 5K, or Human

to find running routes in the cities you visit. Strava recommends running routes of various distances in more than 80 cities worldwide.

To find running partners,

hook up with running clubs in your destination city. The explore tab on Strava will connect you with clubs in your area. You can also tell your followers if you’re visiting a certain city, and ask if anyone has running contacts there. You’ll be amazed at how helpful the local running community is.

If you’re meeting with clients,

ask them if they want to run with you after work. I find one of the best ways to do business is to go for a run with somebody.
