To celebrate the milestone, Phaidon has published a book filled with the designer’s pick of 50 objects that have shaped his designs over the years – from a packet of flower seeds to colourful yarn wound around card, the latter of which has been used for the book cover. Edited by Tony Chambers, Paul Smith (£49.95) presents work from the brand’s first show in Paris through to the evolution of the signature stripe, and includes contributi­ons from fashion and design luminaries such as Manolo Blahnik and John Pawson.
