Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills

- Pretty Woman. Hannah Brandler

BACKGROUND

This 16-storey property opened in 1987 and is often used as a venue for Hollywood’s film and press events. Its nearby sister property, the Beverly Wilshire, is well-known as a location in

WHERE IS IT?

On South Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills, a 15-minute palm-fringed walk to Rodeo Drive.

The concierge can arrange car transfers to/from LAX, which is a 30 minute drive from the hotel, or you can use the Four Seasons app to arrange airport transfers.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?

The large, luxe hotel fits right into the Beverly Hills landscape with its leafy driveway, a bellman to welcome you, a red carpet-like entry and a statue of Marilyn Monroe.

Interiors are light and airy thanks to large glass windows, and natural light reflects off glitzy chandeliers. Striking floral installations by Jeff Leatham provide character.

The ground floor has a concierge and reception, meeting areas and the Culina Ristorante and lounge bar. There’s a UPS shop for printing, shipping and business centre needs, and a Krigler boutique.

At check-in, I was offered a glass of Champagne or water, and the process was simple. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out at 12pm.

ROOMS

The hotel has 185 rooms and 100 suites. All have a balcony with views of either the Hollywood Hills or downtown

LA, and are often used for photoshoots, particularly during awards season.

My Premier Balcony room (37 sqm) was beautifully appointed, with a ceiling-high upholstered headboard and the brand’s famously comfortable king-size bed.

The room had a lounge area and a well-designed dining/work table with sockets nearby and a standing lamp. Tech features include a large TV and a bedside tablet to request services and chat with the staff, while amenities include regularly replenished cans of drinking water, a Bose speaker, coffee and tea-making facilities, plus a mini fridge with paid-for items.

The marble bathroom has a vanity area as you enter – the perfect space for getting glam – while a toilet and powerful rain shower over a bathtub are located behind another set of doors.

The hotel also has wellness rooms and suites – amenities include an air-purification system, in-room yoga equipment, energising light to help regulate circadian rhythm and a soundscape machine.

FOOD AND DRINK

The ground floor is home to the mahogany-rich Culina, an Italian restaurant that also serves an a la carte breakfast with LA favourites and healthy options. Grab a table on the foliage-filled terrace and order the delicious shakshuka (US$28), served with naan.

The fourth-floor rooftop was home to vegan restaurant Plant Food + Wine by chef Matthew Kenney during my visit, but this has since closed. Instead there’s the alfresco Cabana Restaurant, which serves breakfast and lunch – and the option to eat poolside.

MEETINGS

There is 1,532 sqm of meeting and event space, including a 379 sqm ballroom, the lush Wetherly Gardens and four press junket floors (with a 37-seat screening room). The fourth floor has the Well Office, a light-filled space with hypoallergenic wood floors, an air purification system, an adjustable-height conference table and standing desk stools, plus video-conferencing amenities.

LEISURE

The hotel partnered with Delos Living for its fourth-floor wellness facilities. There’s a spa with eight treatment rooms and a 24-hour open-air fitness centre, which has a unique setting neighbouring the pool. There’s also a private fitness suite that you can hire for two hours. The highlight is the fourth-floor rooftop pool, which is a tropical oasis for post-meeting R&R. Bold orange parasols and sun loungers brighten up the space, while dragonflies buzz overhead. Head to the elevated whirlpool and peek over the wall for extraordinary views of Beverly Hills.

VERDICT

This hotel has a fittingly indooroutdoor feel and restful rooms with enviable views. The focus on wellness is a great USP for guests increasingly interested in wellbeing while travelling.
