Anyone who knows their onions when it comes to important horological dynasties will be aware of the the Jürgensen family and the generations of Danish watchmakers that have created superlative timepieces from the 18th through to the 20th century.
Urban Jürgensen & Sønner are amongst the world’s greatest creators of timepieces and now, after a 35-year time period in which the company was owned by two Swiss gentlemen, the business has now returned to Danish hands. Last November, a group of Danish private investors acquired the company and appointed Mr. Søren Jenry Petersen, one of the investing group, as President and CEO. The brand, which notably won the award for Best Watch in the category ‘Men’s Watches’ at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genêve in October (a nice way to celebrate the brand’s 241st birthday), said of the move, “For the past 35 years Peter Baumberger with Derek Pratt and lately Dr. Helmut Crott have steered the company forward with concepts for new in-house calibres and perpetuating a refined understanding of choice in execution of the haute horlogerie craft for the 21st century. The new ownership plans to build upon this foundation selectively creating watches in timeless styles exhibiting the finest of execution and attention to detail in the craftsmanship, continuing over 240 years of established traditions at the company.”
