One of the best cultural experiences in the state is the Alaska Native Heritage Center. It’s an educational and interactive experience managed by a board of directors from Alaska Native corporations. Powerful performances of Native dance, music, and athletics take center stage, while gorgeous works of art and historical artifacts wow guests daily. Authentic Native Alaskan houses are on display outside, where one can learn that they do not, in fact, live in igloos.

The newly renovated and world- class Anchorage Museum houses a mix of indigenous and modern cultural exhibits exploring the land, art, history, and geology of the last frontier.

Anchorage dedicates one percent of all public construction budgets to art projects. So keep an eagle eye out for colorful bear statues, as well as sculptures both inside and outside the museum and Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center.
