Wedding Ceremonies For All!
Although same- sex vow renewals or ceremonial vows have long been offered on many islands (Curaçao, often considered the unofficial Caribbean gay travel capital, performs many), a growing number of islands are now also offering all the legalities of a wedding ceremony to everyone.
BONAIRE
One of the first Caribbean islands to legalize same- sex weddings, Bonaire greets all couples with a warm “Bon Bini.” The two of you might opt to exchange your vows in the historic Pasangrahan, the historic town hall located in the capital of Kralendijk, or on a powdery beach witnessed by one of the most diverse populations of marine life found in the Caribbean.
U. S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
“America’s Paradise” offers picture- perfect wedding sites for all couples set against an idyllic backdrop. Three main islands provide lovers very different destination wedding experiences. The busiest island, St. Thomas, features natural beauty at Magens Bay with its classic beach and St. Peter Mountain — and plenty of duty-free shopping opportunities to pick out wedding rings. The larger island of St. Croix is rich with history that harks back to its years as a Dutch colony and has long been a favorite with gay travelers. The smallest of the three main Virgin Islands, St. John, offers wedding sites ranging from powdery Hawksnest Beach to Annaberg, a former Danish sugar mill, nestled in the Virgin Islands National Park that covers two-thirds of the island.
PUERTO RICO
For nearly 500 years, Castillo San Felipe del Morro — better known as El Morro — has guarded the city of San Juan and served as one of the most photographed spots in the Caribbean. The fort’s garitas, the fortified circular sentry towers that are a symbol of Puerto Rico, make the perfect backdrop for a ceremony that recognizes the strength of your love. And to end the ceremony with island flair, couples can choose to celebrate with a traditional danza criolla, a Puerto Rican waltz.
