“What’s your next vacation?”
It’s only four words, but it’s a question that truly has it all. Curiosity. Instant aspiration. The promise of hope, the opportunity for fellowship, and nothing ahead but blue skies, clear paths, and whatever else is conjured or awoken by that most magical of words: vacation!
I think it’s a question that transcends small talk and casual conversation because it speaks to the heart more than the mind. It’s not asking for reheated memories of some past trip; it’s offering an enthusiastic, encouraging opportunity to, among many things, achieve a greater, more honest connection.
You’ll have to forgive me if that’s all quite deep, but like you, I’ve had much time to reflect. As we were putting the finishing touches on this issue of Porthole Cruise Magazine, the spread of COVID-19 was just beginning to show its sudden, shocking effects on our daily lives. Health within our global community is thankfully being regarded as the ultimate priority, and while I am still confident we’ll all be stronger citizens and industries on the other side of this, I also immediately knew I wanted to do more within the cruise community I know so well and love so much.
In March, we at Porthole Cruise Magazine and Porthole.com began sharing stories of positivity around cruise and travel, planting as our proud flag the hashtag #MyNextVacation. It was our way of spotlighting passionate travelers and their stories in a manner that would inspire and encourage, at a time when our long views needed that promise of hope. We continue to be overwhelmed by the #MyNextVacation response and your collective looks ahead, and it has only strengthened our resolve and reaffirmed our mission here.
We’re Porthole. A window to an outside world you don’t have to just imagine, but can actually experience and celebrate.
Looking curiously through that window, there’s no telling what you’ll find. Besides, of course, blue skies and clear paths ahead.
So, what’s your next vacation?
