Africa and Middle East Director of Referees

At the age of 26, he became director of internatio­nal referees for Africa and the Middle East. In 2007, he estimated that “considerab­le efforts are being made at the level of world tennis bodies to support African countries in their policy of populariza­tion and training of technical managers”.

Seven Grand Slam finals

Remaining the youngest internatio­nal referee to be mounted on a chair, he officiated in seven Grand Slam finals: Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open and three Olympic Games.

Davis Cup 2006

In a 2006 Davis Cup doubles match between Great Britain and Serbia and Montenegro, Adel Aref was insulted by the tennis player Andy Murray, who was protesting a decision he felt was a bad decision. Andy Murray was fined $ 2,500 and then apologized two years later in Paris.

Olympic Games

Adel Aref was responsibl­e of the official tennis referees training at the Olympic level before the Athens and Beijing Olympics.
