Turkey tells US it should give up on building observation posts in Syria

Iran Daily - - International -

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar told US Syria Envoy Jim Jeffrey that the United States should give up on building observation posts in Syria, state-owned Anadolu Agency said on Friday.

The United States is setting up “observation posts” along parts of the border between Turkey and Syria to help keep the focus on defeating Daesh terrorists in Syria, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said last month, Reuters reported. Turkey has expressed unease with the plans and has been angry at US support for the YPG (the People’s Protection Units, the mainly-kurdish militia in Syria), which is a main ally in the fight against Daesh. Jeffrey is in Turkey for a meeting of the Turkey-us working group on Syria.
