Second platform of South Pars phases 22-24 installed
1The second platform of phases 22-24 of South Pars Gas Field was installed on Thursday, announced the operator of the phases.
Farhad Izadjou put the daily gas production from this platform, which belongs to Phase 22, at 14.2 million cubic meters (mcm), Shana reported on Friday.
Phases 22-24 are expected to produce 56 million cubic meters of sour gas, 75,000 billion barrels of gas condensate, and 400 tons of sulfur per day, in addition to 50 million cubic meters of methane, 2,900 tons of LPG and 2,750 tons of ethane.
Iran uses natural gas for heating purposes and as feedstock for thermal power plants that constitute more than 80 percent of its installed electricity generating capacity. It also injects gas into underground reservoirs to increase crude oil recovery.
South Pars Gas Field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers, called South Pars, lie in Iran’s territorial waters.
The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, known as North Dome, are situated off Qatar.
The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the global reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
