Qazvin-rasht railroad to become operational in March

-

The 205-kilometer Qazvin-rasht (northern Iran) railway line will become operational in a ceremony to be attended by President Hassan Rouhani prior to March 21, said the managing director of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) on Monday.

Kheirollah Khademi added the railroad will be ready to serve passengers during Norouz holidays marking the start of the new year (March 21) in Iran, Fars News Agency reported.

Commenting on his Monday’s visit to the sites home to the implementation of the project’s various phases, he said the rail route is ready for use.

Describing the construction of the railroad as a megaproject, Khademi said the railway line is the country’s biggest and most special rail project.

“Impassable mountains and regions with special geographical locations along the route of the railway had made the implementation of the project more demanding.”

He noted that 28 kilometers of tunnels and galleries as well as nine kilometers of bridges and overpasses were built by domestic experts along the route of the railroad.

The construction of stations along the route is 98 percent complete, Khademi said, putting their number at five.

He put the physical progress of the passenger terminal and its main building at 98 percent.
