Samsung unveils new home helper robots

-

Samsung Electronics introduced robots to help people cook, clean and undertake other household chores.

The company said on Tuesday that it exhibited its new robots in Las Vegas, the US, on Monday, a day ahead of the opening of the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), which will continue until Thursday, koreatimes.co.kr reported.

The robots are Samsung Bot Chef, a robotic arm that works as a cooking assistant; Samsung Bot Clean, a vacuum cleaner robot; and Chef Garden refrigerator that allows consumers to grow their own vegetables inside a refrigerator. Samsung said the products are the firm’s vision for future homes.

The Bot Chef is designed to help not only general users but also disabled people as it can cut or chop ingredients or mix sauces using its robotic arm. Equipped with light detection and ranging (LIDAR) sensor, the Bot Clean robot can scan through the house. Based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the Chef Garden refrigerator can create the best conditions for cultivating herbs and vegetables.

Samsung launched its robotics platform Samsung Bot during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. It unveiled a fleet of robots including Samsung Bot Care, Air and Retail and exoskeleton-assisted wearable robot GEMS.

“Samsung has been researching various lifestyle products and AI platforms that can contribute to improve the quality of life of consumers,” said Kim Hyun-suk, the president of the firm’s consumer electronics division.

“We will keep innovating the industry and sharing our vision using our distinguished AI technology and product design competence.”

The KBIS fair is North America’s largest trade show concerning the kitchen and bath products industry, featuring more than 600 companies and some 80,000 attendees across the world.

Samsung joined the show with its affiliate Dacor, a Us-based home appliance brand. Samsung acquired the firm in 2016 to expand its business portfolio into premium home appliances.

During the show, the firm exhibited the latest edition of its high-end built-in appliance brand Chef Collection. The lineup includes ovens, stove tops, dish washers and refrigerators.

Also, it displayed the Family Hub refrigerators, which won innovation awards at the Consumer Electronics Show for four consecutive years. Connected to Samsung’s AI platform Bixby, the refrigerator can perform more tasks, the firm said. It also showcased its garment care appliance Air Dresser.
