Former player and manager of the Iranian Persian Gulf Pro League club Esteghlal Farhad Majidi was named as the team’s new head coach again.

The 44-year-old coach parted ways with Esteghlal in early September 2020 and his assistant Majid Namjou-motlaq took the helm in the club’s remaining matches in the 2020 AFC Champions League, where it failed to qualify for Round of 16, Tasnim News Agency reported.

On October 5, Mahmoud Fekri, a former captain of the team, was appointed as Esteghlal coach; but after failing to live up to the expectations of the club’s and fans, he was sacked after five months.

Two other Iranian coaches Alireza Mansourian and Saket Elahami were also

candidates for the job.

Majidi mostly played as attacking midfielder for

Esteghlal when he was a football player. He started his career at Iran’s Bahman

club and also played in Austrian, Emirati and Qatari clubs.
