Many roads reopen in provinces hit with heavy snowfall

Many roads have been reopened in western and northweste­rn provinces, which had been closed for days due to heavy snowfall.

According to the authoritie­s in West Azarbaijan Province, 95 percent of more than 8,000 kilometers of rural roads in the province has been reopened so far, according to IRNA. Paths to 45 villages still remain closed. The province was hit with a cold snap following a week of heavy snowfall and blizzard.

Meanwhile, roads of eight villages in the western city of Gilan-e Gharb in Kermanshah Province have been reopened, according to the province’s officials.

Snowfall in the province, which started nearly a week ago and continued until Thursday, blanketed most areas of the province, leading to the blockage of main and rural roads and power outages in a number of villages.

In Lorestan Province, roads of 1,243 villages have been reopened and workers are trying to clear the roads of 120 other villages.

During the past week, many cities in the western and northweste­rn provinces were struck with heavy snowfall.
