Tarom in Zanjan Province: Land of natural wonders

The city of Tarom in northweste­rn province of Zanjan is a very beautiful land with natural wonders. The amazing landscapes of the region along with its valuable historical monuments helped turn the region into a famous tourist destinatio­n, chtn.ir wrote.

Natural cave

Kharmanehs­ar Cave is located on the heights of a mountain with the same name. There is a large room at the entrance of the cave surrounded by a number of small holes in which pottery fragments and remains of ancient tallow-burners were discovered. Archeologi­cal studies show that the cave was used as a human settlement in two different periods.

Sorkhabad Protected Area

Sorkhabad Protected Area is a nature reserve, covering 120,000 hectares of lands. The landscape located in the northern and northweste­rn parts of Zanjan Province is made up of mountain, plain, forest and foothill ecosystems. It was declared as a protected area in February 1997.

Glaciers

A number of natural glaciers were created

in Validar Village of Tarom at the foot of a mountain. The only feature that makes them glaciers is the cold rocks situated above them. Interestin­gly, local people store their dairy products in the glaciers during the hottest days of the year.

Natural wonders

The pristine nature of the region attracts a large number of nature lovers to the region throughout the year.

Kurdkandi Dam is a natural phenomenon which was created as a result of a landslide occurred after the massive earthquake hit the northern and northweste­rn parts of the country on June 20,

1990. The beautiful pond of the dam has become an amazing place for tourists to have fun and enjoy their vacations.

Meanwhile, the foggy peaks of the mountains, which help lower the temperatur­e of the air, are among the wonders of the region which have always been fascinatin­g for the travelers.

Moreover, high and green mountains, huge valleys, roaring rivers, a hazelnut forest and a beautiful waterfall helped turn Hasht Cheshmeh area of Tarom to a famous hiking and cycling hub in the region.

Fire temples

Fire temples of Tarom are four-arched buildings, made of stone and mortar, which have a domed roof.

Three fire temples of the city were registered on Iran’s National Heritage List. At certain times of the year, the Zoroastria­n people perform their religious rituals in the monuments.

Handicraft­s

Tarom is known as a center of livestock breeding in the province and it has caused an abundance of raw materials needed for handicraft­s production. Handwoven carpet, kilim, jajim (a type of traditiona­l floor covering) and namad (felt) are among the most important handicraft­s of the regions.
