TEHRAN (FNA)- First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri expressed his appreciation to the International Federation of Football Associations for all efforts of the international body to avoid political issues in football.

Jahangiri made the remarks in a meeting with President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa in Tehran on Saturday hours before the football match between Iran’s Persepolis and Japanese Kashima Antlers to be held at Azadi Stadium.

“World and Asian football lovers will watch today’s game and I hope we will see an interesting and fair game, so that all the football lovers enjoy,” said the Iranian official.

He said that Iran has made every effort to be an effective member of AFC, adding, “The Iranian government has supported all the sports fields, especially football for both men’s and women’s, to promote it throughout the country.”

He urged the Asian Football Confederation not to let political issues to affect football and to make more efforts to increase integrity between the Asian countries.

Jahangiri hailed the AFC’s supports of Iran, urging the AFC president to smooth the way for Iranian representatives to be elected in the directing board of the Asian Football confederation and its subsidiary committees.

Shaikh Salman, for his part, said that Iran’s football plays an important role on both Asian and world scales.

“Iran’s football has shown shining performance in all categories, especially in 2018 World Cup.

He also referred to the AFC congress, which was held in the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur recently, stressing that it displayed the solidarity among the AFC members.
