Iran welcomes Russian investments in its energy, transport sectors
Iran invites Russian companies to invest in construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Bander-Abbas thermal power plant, and the Bafq-Kerman railroad, Speaker of the Majlis (Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran) Ali Larijani said in Moscow on Monday.
Speaking at a meeting with Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament), he said:
“These works need financing, and we will certainly welcome the investments of Russian oil and gas companies. I would like to stress it that Russian companies have an excellent opportunity to take part in these projects.”
Earlier, the general contractor for the construction of the second stage of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran (the second and third power units - TASS) said that it plans to start the actual construction of the second power unit in June 2019. The construction of the Sirik thermal power plant in the city of Bandar Abbas in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan began in February. Both projects are implemented jointly by Russia and Iran.
