Ira­nian chess player wins Baku Int’l Chess Champs

IRNA — Ira­nian chess player Arash Tah­baz won Baku In­ter­na­tional Chess cham­pi­onships af­ter he ac­quired seven points dur­ing nine games.

Baku In­ter­na­tional Chess Cham­pi­onships at­tended by 200 chess play­ers from Azer­bai­jan Repub­lic, Ukraine, Iran, Rus­sia and Ge­or­gia was held in three cat­e­gories on Jan­uary 5-10.

Ira­nian chess play­ers Arash Tah­baz, Ariya Omidi and Mo­ham­mad Sadegh Mar­zoughi rep­re­sented Iran in the games which ended by in­tro­duc­ing Tah­baz as the win­ner.

In Group A, Tah­baz made five wins and four draws gain­ing seven points to stand first in the com­pe­ti­tions. Az­eri and Ukrain­ian play­ers came 2nd and 3rd re­spec­tively, each gain­ing five points in this group.

The last game of the com­pe­ti­tions be­tween Ariya Omidi and Az­eri player ended in a draw but Omidi stood sec­ond in the to­tal rank­ings.
