Schoolgirl’s beaten body discovered in ‘horrific’ farm murder

- BY STAFF REPORTER

THE naked and severely injured body of a 14-year-old schoolgirl was discovered yesterday in Co Dublin.

Tragic Ana Kriegel was viciously beaten and left to die in a derelict farmhouse shortly after she went missing, gardai believe. She died from severe blunt trauma to the head.

The farmhouse where the grim discovery was made, just off the Clonee Road in Lucan, is not far from where Ms Kriegel was last seen on Monday evening.

Her family had reported her missing at Leixlip Garda Station at around 8pm that day after they became concerned for her safety.

Gardai immediately launched a search for the teenager.

A well placed source said the murder scene was “horrific”, adding: “There was a lot of blood. It was awful.”

It is understood a “significant line” in the murder investigation was that Ana may have been killed by someone who was known to her.

Gardai are probing if this person was with the schoolgirl in St Catherine’s Park, Lucan, when she was last seen alive.

The park is a popular spot frequented by families with children. The 200 acre site, which was searched by gardai for three days, stretches from Lucan to Leixlip and the nearby Clonee area.

A first year student at Confey Community College, Ana was described as a “particularly striking teenager” who was well known within her school and local community.

Investigators also said her family had been left extremely distressed by her murder.

Gardai have launched a hunt for the killer and Supt John Gordon of Lucan garda station said detectives are following a number of lines of inquiry.

He added: “As you can imagine at this time (her family) are receiving a lot of support from An Garda Siochana but they are extremely distressed and they are also looking for the public assistance, and privacy at his time as well.”
