‘My life is one long time-out... I’m a very lucky man’

-

Do you drink and smoke/if so how much?

See above. I think that’s a pretty moderate amount of booze considering that the Brexit shambles is happening. I don’t smoke.

Do you take any supplements?

Why would I? They are a total waste of money. If you’re eating a reasonable diet you’re getting all the vitamins you need. Do some research; read some science.

How do you take time out?

Listen, my life is one long “timeout”. I’m a very lucky man. I enjoy what I do and I do it when I want to and only sometimes when I have to. I like the running and I paint and draw too. I went to art school years ago and I’m getting back into it again. Seems a shame to have a talent for something and to not use it. Ironically it stresses me out when it goes wrong. I play in a band too but not as often as I used to.

How well do you sleep?

Up until a recent significant birthday, I slept like a log, but not so much anymore.

Do you worry about getting old?

What’s the point in worrying? Surely that will just make you ill, won’t it? I realise that I’m very lucky to be fitter now than ever before. At the same time I set the bar very low. I regret not doing a bit of exercise earlier in life though. I am hyper-aware, though, of acting like a walking midlife crisis.

What is your go-to product that keeps you feeling healthy?

Don’t have a “product”. Tell you what makes you feel alive though, a swim in the sea. The single best thing ever. No one ever regrets a swim after the swim.

Tour dates include Omagh, Antrim and Lisburn, and due to demand a second date has been added at the Ulster Hall on May 18. All tickets are available directly from venue box offices or online. For details visit www. thatcolinmurphy.com
