BELFAST swimming star Jack Mcmillan is set for his first Olympic outing as a Team GB athlete after being selected for Paris 2024.

Mcmillan represented Ireland in Tokyo but switched allegiance in 2022 and will now represent Team GB in the pool this summer.

The 24-year-old now trains in Stirling alongside Olympic champion Duncan Scott, with the pair both part of the 33-strong team that will represent Great Britain across pool and marathon swimming during the Games, with action getting under way in Paris on July 27 at La Defense Arena.

Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England said: “Team GB has a proud tradition in Olympic swimming competitions, and I am delighted to welcome all 33 athletes to the team for Paris 2024.

“The strength and depth of our pool swimming team was evident to see at the recent Aquatics GB Swimming Championships. I have no doubt the thrilling races we saw at the British Championships last week will be equally close fought.

“We’re excited to watch them all compete against the best in the world.”

Mcmillan will hope to make a splash in Paris and build on a promising junior career that saw him win 200m freestyle gold and 100m freestyle silver at the 2018 World Schools Games.

The freestyle specialist has continued on an upward trajectory since then, booking his place at the 2023 World Championships — his first for Great Britain — where he finished seventh in the 100m freestyle Final.

He was also part of the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team at the World Championships, with

Great Britain out to defend their Olympic title in Paris.

Aquatics GB head coach Bill Furniss said: “The swimmers have come through a tough selection process and earned the chance to show what they are capable of on the Olympic stage.

“We have a mix of proven experience and some exciting new talent, and our relay strength is encouraging in many events. The challenge for everyone on the team is to maximise the final months of preparation and produce their best performance of the season in the Olympic arena.”

Three-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty is set to headline British efforts in the pool in Paris.

Peaty and Mcmillan will both benefit from monthly vouchers from Aldi for their all-important food shops, an initiative that has supported 1,000 athletes in the past four years.

Aldi have been the Official Supermarket of Team GB since 2015. Already one of Team GB’S longest-serving partners, this partnership has now been extended to 17 years until 2032, reaffirming Aldi’s multi-million-pound investment in both Team GB and its athletes.

Peaty said: “I’m thrilled to have made my third Olympic team. It’s always amazing to be part of Team GB, but with it being so close to home in Paris, and having more home fans there supporting us, it’s more exciting.”
