Dornan to executive produce and star as career criminal in new Apple TV+ series

NORTHERN Ireland actor Jamie Dornan is set to star in a new heist series on Apple TV+, it has been revealed.

The actor, originally from Holywood in Co Down, is also set to be an executive producer on the series, titled 12 12 12, according to US publication Variety.

He will star opposite Anthony Mackie, who achieved global recognition for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with film Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).

Mr Mackie, who is set to lead Captain America: Brave New World in 2025, will also serve as an executive producer on the show.

12 12 12 follows “a disgraced FBI agent [Mackie] and an American career criminal [Dornan] who play a zero-sum game of cat and mouse across Europe. At the centre of it all is the daring, epic raid on a bank vault deep beneath the streets of Zurich”, according to the official logline.

The series will take place across three timelines: the 12 months prior to the heist, its 12-hour duration and the 12 days after.

It first was reported that the show would be on the market in January and it’s believed that progress is being made with the US streamer.

Dornan has previously spoken about his hesitation to be part of big projects after starring in the

Fifty Shades franchise, telling the Independent late last year: “There’s never going to be anything like Fifty Shades again. It felt very much like its own thing, particularly because it focused in and around sex.

“But there are obviously other jobs that bring insane scrutiny, like superhero stuff or James Bond — any of that stuff. I’ve done pretty well to avoid that sort of s*** so far.”

But he told the New York Times in 2021 that he’d had meetings with Marvel and would love a career like Robert Pattinson’s, who goes between big-budget productions and indie films.

It was reported that Mr Dornan had screen-tested for Marvel’s

Fantastic Four reboot, only to be pipped to the role of Mr Fantastic by Pedro Pascal. But Mr Dornan denied those reports.

“I think if you’re an actor of a certain standing, who has a certain sort of recognition, you’re going to be in those conversations,” he told the Independent.

“I’m not saying I’d never do anything super high-profile again, or a big [intellectual property] with all eyes on it... I probably will. But I’m also really happy with where I’m at right now.

“I can live a pretty normal life for the most part... I’m an ambitious person, and I have a fire under me, but in the last 10 years or so I’ve realised I don’t want big peaks all the time. That doesn’t interest me. I’m happy to keep ticking over as I am, then one day just disappear and play golf for the rest of my life.”

The 12 12 12 series is created by Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, who will also executive produce, while Kari Skogland will direct the pilot and executive produce.

Mr Mackie, via his Make It With Gravy production company, is executive producing the series with Mr Dornan.

Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment will executive produce alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television, with Anonymous Content executive producing. The series is a co-production between both companies.
