Keane pays tribute to ‘loyal and beautiful’ dog Jet after death of pet

ROY Keane has paid tribute to his “beautiful and loyal” dog as he shared the loss of his family pet with a series of photos.

The former Republic of Ireland international and Manchester United player shared photos on Instagram of himself, his young children and German Shepherd Jet, who is also seen playing in the snow and posing for the camera.

“Thanks Jet for being so beautiful and loyal to our family. We will miss you,” he wrote.

A few of Keane’s former United colleagues provided words of comfort. Former England captain David Beckham wrote: “The last picture is amazing… Sorry for your loss Roy.” Meanwhile, Gary Neville and Ian Wright posted emojis beneath the post.

Keane had previously shared his concern about Jet’s health in an episode of Neville’s Youtube channel The Overlap.

Speaking earlier this month, the Irishman said: “You have a routine and you have to look after them. Walk them. I went out this morning before I came here.

“It gives you good security. It’s good for a bit of exercise. Love them to bits. I’ve got two dogs. But mine are getting a bit old now and a bit frail and that’s always the worry that something will happen to them.”

Jet featured alongside Keane in a number of ads for Adidas’ Spezial collection campaign, in which he opened up about the reality of retiring from his professional career.

Jet was also the focus of the former Manchester United player’s first-ever Instagram post.

Author Paul Howard, who is behind the satirical Ross O’carroll-kelly series, penned the ‘autobiography’ of Keane’s late dog Triggs in 2012, documenting the story of a dog who “was no Marley” and its owner who “God knows” was “no John Grogan”.

The Labrador Retriever died later that year as a result of a tumour, with Keane admitting it was a difficult loss to deal with.

“She was about 13 and unless you’ve had a dog you will never understand. She was a great dog and went through a lot,” he said.

The dog had become famous in the sport when photographed on a walk with Keane after his departure from the Irish team base in Saipan, during the World Cup in Japan in 2002.
