Wicklow’s Civil Registrations office to close

BEING RELOCATED TO BRAY

-

THE HSE’S Civil Registration Service (CRS) Office on the Glenside Road in Wicklow Town is to close down over the coming months.

The services facilitated by the office - such as the provision of birth, death and marriage certificates - are to be relocated to the Health Centre on Bray Main Street. According to the HSE, this will allow for the Civil Registration Service to ‘deliver a comprehensive range of services in a much more user friendly manner, with extended opening hours and the provision of a dedicated civil ceremony facility.’

However, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Jimmy O’Shaughnessy was enthusiastic about the move, which he believed constituted yet another blow to employment and service provision within the town.

‘ This has been in Wicklow Town for years,’ he told the Wicklow People. ‘In the past few years we have also seen closures of the medical card centre, the court house and the County Wicklow VEC office could go out of the town as well.

‘ These closures have a huge effect on the town - they lead to more job losses and less spending money for the area.

‘ This will have an effect on all the people in County Wicklow who need certs - they could go to Wicklow Town and get prompt service.

‘We have to ask where are our elected TD’s - where is the voice?

‘ This is being closed by the Minister for Health and we have three government TD’s. What are they doing about it?’

A date for the closure of the office and subsequent transfer of sergices to Bray has yet to be confirmed.
