TRANSITION YEAR TRIP

A group of TY students attended the inaugural WWGS Conference at Croke Park on Thursday last April 3. WWGS stands for World Wise Global Schools, a charity organization who provide assistance to post primary schools in growing development education. The theme of this year's conference was 'Passport to Development Education', with exciting workshops and a showcase exhibition on offer for both students and teachers to explore various aspects of development education in an interactive and fun way. Many thanks to Mr.Healy for organising the trip. SWEDISH EXCHANGE

Welcome back to our fifth year students, along with Ms.Armstrong and Mr.McKenna, who have just spent ten days in Sweden. They followed the Swedish school system and spent time with host families. They took part in Swedish lessons, choir, social studies, art, textile class and wrestling to mention a few. During their visit, the students enjoyed Waffle Day at the school and also tasted Semlor.

They visited Helsingborg, Malmo and Copenhagen, while also taking in Hamlet's Castle, The Little Mermaid and Rosenborg Castel. Modes of transport varied from plane, boat, bus, train, segway and bicycle! It was a very interesting experience for all involved. GAEILGE

Class 4JAG and 4AWH have been working on the play 'Balor Na Súile Nimhe' with Ms.Cheever's 5th class in Newtown Primary School for the past number of months. The preparations, which began before Christmas, culminated in the recent performance of the play for their parents. All pupils were excellent! Well done to all the pupils in fifth class, and also to the two TY classes for all their hard work. GERMAN EXCHANGE

The German exchange has just taken place in the school. 14 students and 2 arrived from Wurzburg. While in Ireland, the German students attended some classes to learn how the Irish system works. They also went on a day trip to Dublin, taking in Trinity College, the Book of Kells and the Viking Splash Tour. The students also walked from Greystones to Bray along the picturesque cliff walk and spent an evening bowling in Wicklow. This is the sixth exchange to take place between CCA and Wurzburg. The Irish students will make their return visit to Germany on April 30th for 6 days. PREFECTS

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Coláiste Chraobh Abhann Student Council and Green School's committee recently attended the An Taisce 5km Walk for Water event in Glendalough. During this walk, students were asked to carry three litres of water as a way to promote awareness for woman and children in Africa who are forced to walk and carry clean water every day from wells to their homes. CSPE TRIP

Class 2DND and 3AOA recently visited Dáil Éireann as part of the CSPE programme. This trip was facilitated by Mr.Simon Harris, TD. During the day, the students sat in on the Dáil, the Seanad and were also given a tour of Leinster House, learning about its history and the proclamation.

The day concluded with a question and answer session with Mr.Harris. Many thanks to Ms.Tarrant, Ms.Ní Suaird and Ms.Clarke who accompanied the students on the day. EASTER HOLIDAYS
