Carnew students retain Senior camogie crown
COLÁISTE BHRIDE CARNEW are once again County Wicklow Post Primary Schools Senior A camogie champions.
In the first schools final played in the Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill they scored a comfortable win over B champions, St Kevin's CC Dunlavin, on Friday.
Nicole Curran opened the scoring for Coláiste Bhride in the third minute but four minutes later St Kevin's were in front, thanks to a Grace O'Neill goal.
Their lead was to be short lived however as Una Sinnott restored the Coláiste Bhride advantage with a 9th minute goal.
For the remainder of the first half the Carnew school scored regularly while St Kevin's had difficulty scoring thanks to a strong Coláiste Bhride defence and a tendency to go for goals at all times.
The second half followed in the same pattern, St Kevin's worked hard and had some fine players but Coláiste Bhride, who had reached the Leinster schools final, had the better all round team.
Outstanding for the winners were goalkeeper Rebecca Doran, Charlotte Redmond in defence, Una Sinnott who was top scored with 5-1 and Nicole Curran.
Others to register scores for the winners were Emily O'Reilly, Sarah Byrne, Jodie Lifely, Katie Kenny and Holly Myers.
Hannah O'Neill and Sarah O'Keeffe excelled in the St Kevin's defence while others to impress included Deirbhile Byrne, Grace O'Neill and Aoife Grace.
