CDs still rule
Fascinating facts revealed in a Record Store Day survey conducted by ICM Research
•15% of those who buy CDs, cassettes and vinyl records never listen to them but buy ‘purely to own’
•22% of music buyers who shopped online last month bought from Amazon, compared to 11% who purchased from iTunes and 10% on eBay
•CDs are still more popular than downloads, with 57% buying the physical discs over the past month compared to 39% buying digital
• Vinyl continues to grow. 10% of those surveyed bought a vinyl record in the past month
•The humble cassette is making a comeback - 5% bought a cassette tape in the past month, up from 2% the same time last year
•Supermarkets account for 12% of all physical sales
•70% of those who buy online say they do so primarily because of convenience
•41% of buyers spend more online than instore per single visit
