Wicklow crew are ready for the Challenge

-

A ROWING crew from Wicklow town will take part in this weekend’s Celtic Challenge to raise funds for Wicklow RNLI.

George O’Brien of the recently formed Vartry Rowing Club has put together a team who hope to complete the row from Arklow to Aberystwyth in Wales in under 15 hours. The record is 14 hours 47 minutes recorded by Arklow Rowing Club in 2002.

‘I managed to put together a crew from Wicklow town and we are looking forward to the challenge,’ explains George.

‘If we get the right conditions we hope to finish within 15 hours but that is totally weather dependent. All together 12 people will be doing the race for the RNLI, consisting of three crews of four people. We will be rotating the crew every few hours.’

If you are interested in sponsoring their efforts you can contact George on (086) 3116975 or Liz Collard on (086) 8601641.
