FEILE FINALISTS SET FOR SUPER DECIDER
Carnew and Bray to face off in Arklow
SEVEN TEAMS took part in the Wicklow under 14 hurling Feile 2014 played in the Wicklow GAA Center of Excellence, Ballinakill on what was a very wet and windy Saturday afternoon.
The teams were drawn in two groups with Bray Emmets, Michael Dwyer’s and Arklow Rock Parnells in Group 1 and Avondale, Glenealy, Carnew Emmets and St Patrick’s (Wicklow Town) making up Group 2.
Bray Emmets stamped their authority on Group 1 with an excellent win over the holders Michael Dwyer’s.
Fielding only four of last year’s winning panel the young Dwyer’s put up a very credible performance but came up short in front of goal.
Dwyer’s then beat an equally young Arklow Rocks team who found the wet windy conditions very hard to come to terms with.
Bray rounded off the group games with a very impressive display against the Arklow boys.
Over on pitch two, Avondale were convincing winners over the inexperienced Glenealy and St. Patrick’s teams while Carnew were clearly on song with comfortable wins over the Wicklow Town lads and then Avondale.
The semi-finals saw Bray Emmets come up against Avondale and Carnew Emmets take on Michael Dwyer’s.
The Bray lads made full use of their first half wind advantage and stamped their authority on a tiring Avondale team, running out easy 6-10 to 0-00 winners.
Meanwhile on pitch two, Carnew Emmets overcame some stubborn resistance from the Dwyer’s lads to record a 3-02 to 0-02 result.
All of the teams can be very proud of their day’s work with some great skill and commitment shown despite what was very poor hurling weather.
Bray Emmets and Carnew Emmets will now meet in the 2014 Wicklow under-14 Hurling Feile final in Pearse Park, Arklow on Wednesday (today) at 7.15pm and if Saturday’s performances are any thing to go by it promises to be a hard fought and skillful encounter.
