And final lecture...
BEFORE THE Tour, there is one final lecture of the History Society ‘Spring Series’ to take place this Tuesday.
Titled ‘Do the Irish Speak English’ it will be presented by Terry Dolan and it will be a most enjoyable evening.
Dr. Terry Dolan, internationally acclaimed author of ‘A Dictionary of Hiberno-English’ and frequent broadcaster on RTE, BBC and Newstalk Radio, will give a fascination insight into the origins of the distinctive way we use, abuse and enhance the English language.
Terry will regale us on local vocabulary, mispronunciations, brogue, local idioms, oblique metaphors, reckless fondness for swearing, and much more.
Dr. Terence Patrick Dolan is Emeritus Professor of English at the National University of Ireland, Dublin, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is recognized internationally as one of the leading authorities on Hiberno-English.
An entertaining evening is guaranteed for all ages, one not to miss.
