JUSTINE O’MAHONY’S TV WEEK

- JUSTINE O’MAHONY’S

WHOEVER advised Nadia Forde to be the focus of a three part documentary (and I use the term loosely!) series called, Nadia Goes To

Hollywood probably should be sacked or shot! With a title that sounds like a porn movie, 3e drew a large audience with the first installment last week, although I would imagine after five minutes most turned off.

For those of you who've never heard of her before, (and most of you haven't) Nadia Forde is an Irish model who does a bit of singing in her spare time. She's the one who came in for a fair bit of flack after singing the national anthem at an Ireland soccer game last year.

The series films her jetting off to Hollywood in a bid to make herself famous. Within minutes however it's fairly obvious Nadia is never going to be starring alongside George Clooney or doing a duet with Taylor Swift!

Nadia is pretty but not stunning, can hold a tune but isn't a fantastic singer, has a good body but is a little curvy by Hollywood standards. Basically her management are exploiting and humiliating her in a bid to make a TV show and the poor craytur hasn't a clue!

At the beginning of the show she comes across as needy and negative, by the end of it you just feel sorry for her - a nice Irish girl, naive and trusting, who is been taken for a complete ride.

The cast alone is enough to make you want to watch Fargo, the new channel 4 drama which is being hailed the best since Breaking Bad and True Detective. Starring the inimitable Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Oliver Platt and Adam Goldberg, the first two episodes have been both clever and thrilling and even more eerie than the 1996 Cohen brothers movie of the same name.

The story focuses on Nester Nygard (Martin Freeman) who is a timid little salesman who can't provide his wife with all she wants including a new washing machine! She nags, he sits and smiles. He is downtrodden and has reached the end of his tether. A chance meeting with Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton) an assassin, changes his life forever and turns him into a murderer! The plot thickened this week with the appearance of the hired assasins Mr Wench who is a deaf mute and Mr. Numbers who use sign language to communicate. They are sent off to track down the killer of Sam Hess. Meanwhile the new Chief of Police, Bill Oswalt played by Bob Odendirk, who played Saul in Breaking Bad begins to investigate. While his partner Det. Molly Solverson believes Lester is behind the murder, The Chief, who grew up with him, doesn't. Everyone is investigating everyone else and the viewer really has no idea what the hell is going on. Brilliant but crazy!
