Councillor calls for speed limit increase on the N11

-

April 2004

WICKLOW County Councillor Derek Mitchell has called for the new N11 speed limit to be increased from 40mph to 60mph in January.

He pointed out that the road is a fine wide road with solid safety barriers and it is very difficult to keep one’s speed down to 40mph on it.

‘ This speed limit needs to be increased to 60mph which is the design speed for most of the road,’ he said.

The road, which would have been 60mph before roadworks began, was changed to 40mph for safety reasons.

Despite his concerns about the speed limit, Cllr. Mitchell is delighted to see the N11 open. Traffic over Windgates, he maintains, has decreased by about 30 per cent, queuing at Blacklion has reduced and the rat running on some of the back roads of Delgany has ceased.
